Why Rivers State Government Sealed NDDC Building

Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Headquarters building, 167 Aba Express road was sealed yesterday, 17th July 2018 by Rivers State Internal Revenue Service (RIRS) for alleged tax invasion.

RIRS representative, Markson Ndibo, while addressing News men says that NDDC owes Rivers State government Tax of 1.8 billion, due to failure to remit tax to the state government from 2014 till date.

The State government went to court to seek an order to seal the building till the management of NDDC complies by paying off the sum of 1.8 billion.

Markson Ndibo says the court was necessary when NDDC did not allow them access to documents that will clarify issues.

But in a swift reaction, Chijioke Amu-Nnadi, who is the Deputy Director Cooperate Affairs Commission of NDDC says the State government is not saying the truth when it claims that they (NDDC) failed to remit tax to the state government since 2014.

Mr Amu-Nnadi says they were shock by the invasion of the RIRS people because they have commenced paying the Revenue Service the arrears under question.

Read what Mr Chijioke said below;

“About two weeks ago, the Commission met with the tax enforcement team and started negotiations to resolve all outstanding issues. We understand that there is a court order. But it’s important for us to state that the Commission, as a responsible corporate organisation, had begun to attend to all obligations as agreed.

“Last week, the Commission paid the first tranche. They will receive the next tranche this week. This is a sign of goodwill and commitment on the side of the Commission to meet these obligations.

“It is very surprising that even though we have begun paying these arrears dating back to 2013, which the current board inherited, we still have to deal with this little impasse. And mind you, over the past two years, the current Board has paid all the Commission’s tax obligations as at when due.”

TalknewssportsTV was there today, 18th July 2018 to see things for themselves.

All activities has seized in the building. Workers and contractors were not allowed into the building.

NDDC Car Park was also sealed up by RIRS and cars were not allowed into the car park.

The commission back gate was also sealed

Trapped Vehicles inside the building cannot exit via the back gate.
