outbreak of Lassa Fever in Nigeria

Lassa Fever in Nigeria. It is quite a critical time for Nigerians with the constant killing and destruction of lives and farm lands by Fulani’s herdsman and the fresh outbreak of Lassa Fever. Currently, the Ondo state government has reported on Monday that 24 cases of Lassa fever  were already confirmed in different local governments of the state. Unfortunately, a death has been recorded in Ose in Ondo State.

Sadly, in Edo state, a medical doctor name Idowu Ahmed Victor diagnosed of Lassa fever died on the 21ST of January at about 6PM on Sunday. He contacted the disease on the 19th of January from a 7-month old baby who died that same day. Late Dr Victor was a House Keeper at the Federal Medical Centre Lokoja.

It becomes very pertinent that every Nigerian improves on their personal hygiene and take preventive majors to get rids of rats as this would help in combating the disease. According to the World Health Organization (W.H.O), Lassa Fever is an acute viral hemorrhagic fever illness that is known to be endemic. Lassa fever is transmitted to humans via contact with food or household items contaminated with rodent urine or faeces. As it can be contacted from infected patients, the general public should be alert and quickly report any case of high grade fever not responding to antimalarial treatment to the nearest hospital. Stay Clean, stay safe and stay alive and you will avoid Lassa Fever.
