Money for NDDC Not fully Utilized – Engr. Okoro

A former regional manager for Environment Shell Exploration and Production Africa (CEPA), Engr. Charles Okoro says money made available for the development of the Niger Delta region has not been fully utilized by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and other agencies responsible for the development of the region.

Engr. Okoro stated this while attending to questions from correspondents, according to him NDDC which is one of the intervention agencies in the country has not addressed the major ecological problems confronting the region.

“There is fund from the federal government, there is fund from the state government, there is Niger Delta ministry and there is NDDC, there is also ecological fund. It is very difficult for you to sit back and expect a foreigner or stranger in your state to take leadership in issues of development in your state but you should be the one to dictate the tune.

NDDC has a lot of fund, they collect 3% of the budget i.e. the annual spending by oil industries and its huge money which ranges from 50 to 100 billion Naira every year.” He said

The former regional manager also stressed that the process of conserving the natural resources in the Niger Delta should not be left to the government and oil companies alone adding that individuals in cooperate organization should synergize.
